Five years ago while living in New Orleans, Arius Holifield rediscovered his passion for photography by way of the French Quarter. Everything from the notes of a saxophone player off Frenchmen Street to the cajun crayfish crawling from the Mississippi River spoke to his heart, and he captured it with his camera.
In 2017, Arius moved back to his home state of Texas. The city of Austin spoke to him, too, and he listened with his heart. Through his lens, Arius captured the brush strokes of a shoe shiner at Antone’s and the live music that would flood from Gary Clark, Jr’s guitar onto 5th street. Arius took his artistic eye to the fashion world, too, photographing many an outdoor fashion shoot off Lady Bird Lake.
Over the past four years, Arius has also spent a good portion of his time traveling and photographing across the United States. He’s wandered down the rocky coast of Portland into San Francisco Bay, and up through the winding mountains of the Wyoming Teton range. Camera in tow, he creates art in the majestic landscape views he captures through his lens.
Photo work has been featured in The Austin Chronicle, The East Austin Villager, KXAN and KUT. Clients include Official SXSW Showcase Artist Tomar and the FC’s, Official SXSW Showcase Artist DJ Shani and Austin City Council candidate Reddy Spigner.
Arius has acted as house photographer for Austin-based music venue Mohawk with gallery shows at Austin-based music venues Mohawk, Space and Antone’s.
Arius currently lives in Austin, TX and focuses his lens on music, fashion and landscape photography any chance he gets.
